for everyone

I bet you do not do the courtesy of a reach around!

Over on Blackwatch's blog (linked) we were discussing how California now has homosexual marriage. I was curious how Gov. Arnold stood, and was shocked.

“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told a group of gay Republicans on Friday that an attempt to ban same-sex marriage by changing the state Constitution is a "total waste of time" and promised to oppose such an initiative if it qualifies for the state ballot.” LA Times

Gay Republicans!???!!  Sorry, I hit my head when I fainted.

Then it was mentioned that gay marriage is not federally recognized, so I can see it now, here comes the lawsuits. Married openly homosexual people trying to enlist in the service. Married federal employees like postal workers trying to attach his/her spouse to federal benefits. Then states that have banned gay marriage, they will not be able to divorce in non-gay marriage states, more lawsuits.

I do understand how some will be upset because they do not support homosexuality, as is their right, but they will in some fashion be paying for lawsuits.

On the other side they say observe the civil rights progress of non whites, as most people today think racists are loony and disgusting.

As much as I hate the idea of the Feds telling states what to do, this appears it is going to be a reenactment of the 60’s civil rights stuff.

Of course knowing me you know my stand. You want a "waltons marriage" cool! You want an heretosexual yet nontraditional marriage cool, if you are bi, poly, upsidedown, downsidup, bald, or dress like a squirrel, it is your business. The only people who can define yoru relationship is you. We should all have equal protection of the law. Just dont shove your stuff down others people's throat, and don't play the offended at every turn game either.

They can turn it around in November can't they.. they can't just change the constitution with the bat of a eye...

This is an awesome day in the history of human rights for California. Congratulations on giving equal rights to the citizens.

Captain Sulu George Takei got married today.

This is a wonderful thing, giving citizens equal rights, like the right to vote, or hold a job, or own a home.

Arnold has changed positions, I'm glad, and hope more people change their minds about this issue.

same sex marriage has been legal about 24 hours in california,

currently my marriage to a member of the opposite sex hasn't changed.

Mike, has your marriage changed or has the sky fallen in Idaho?

Still the sun in the sky here in Illinois

Going to my first gay wedding tomorrow and Sunday.... I'm very curious about the vows....not sure Y. But read this touching story about a couple 83 and 80 getting married yesterday. The ladies have been together over 56 years. How does their union harm the rest of us?

Catholics,Baptists, Jehovah's Witness,Buddhist, Muslins, Methodist,Lutheran, Libertarians, Bahai's, if it weren't for our constitution some of these religious groups would not be allowed to worship in some parts of the county based on the majority in the area. Without the constitution the Baptist might be outlawed in the Northeast, the Buddhist in the south.

America is a GREAT country. This law is not likely to cause people to change teams, nor is it designed to change anyone belief's It simply allows the laws to apply to all American's

Stay Tuned

I'm glad you're cool with this, Mike, because I AM bald!

it all takes imes.. things are not instant...
so gay marriage is legal for 24 hours... not everyting happens all at once, ut it will ... watch and as you above say... stay tuned
drmccoy2008 wrote on Jun 17
So quistessem, whats worst case scenario we're talking here, is there a risk of a fireball from the sky hitting san francisco?
drmccoy2008 wrote on Jun 17
I don't mean that to be funny, its a legitimate question
quistessem wrote on Jun 17
did i say anything near that?
you do mean it to be funny.. as in sarcasm...
when blacks first got htier rights... it was years befor it turned ugly... now the only racism accepted is reverse.... Affirmative action .. black churches so on so forth... womans liberation.. rights.. were they aborting thier children instantly... nope! were women "expected" to go out and find work just because they now had th right no... you were still able to be a mother,,,,
thepublc school system was not a daycare provider.... and copiral punishment was ok.. being a stay at home mother is now "taboo" and frowned upon! not only that... now its next to impossible to even live on a single income!

if you paddle your child you run risk of beng accused of "beating" your child!

it all seems good on the surfac but the ugly will show through ,,, history sows us!

Love is love you all preach... well this son loves his mother.. who is to say this is wrong... let them marry
well this 40 year old loves this 11 year old who is to say this is wrong?

well jimmyjohn loves his cow.. again who is to say this is wrong .. if you let to members of the same sex unite in marriage... why can't everyone eles be with whom they love?

drmccoy2008 wrote on Jun 17
Ok,
well women got the right to vote in like 1920,
Loving vs Virginia is the supreme court case from like 1968 or 66 that said states can't outlaw interracial marriage,

i don't see what abortion has to do with this cause legal or illegal women who want an abortion were in the pre roe v wade days getting abortions with hangers,

since heterosexuals dont currently have the right to marry 11 year olds or marry a cow, and all anyone is argueing here for is an equal right for a person to marry another person of legal age, i don't follow who here is saying we need to have child molestation or beastiality

and no, my question was not sarcastic or funny, what is your worst case scenario

same sex marriage is legal in a bunch of other countries, in europe and in canada

has it become legal there to marry 11 year olds or beastiality become legal there

see the problem with your arguements is they don't play out in those places where there is same sex marriage
drmccoy2008 wrote on Jun 17
These are countries that have same sex marriage,
Belgium
Canada
Netherlands

Norway (eff. 2009-1-1)
South Africa
Spain

These are marriages that have civil union (same thing different wording, and I quite frankly don't care the semantics)

Andorra
Belgium
Czech Republic
Denmark
Finland
France
Germany
Hungary (eff. 2009-1-1)
Iceland

Luxembourg
Netherlands
New Zealand
Slovenia
Sweden
Switzerland
United Kingdom
Uruguay

I think the good doctor beat me to it. All that's left unsaid from my view is that you've misrepresented history and mischaracterized affirmative action. I also disagree that stay-at-home motherhood is frowned upon - in fact, the tension between the desire to stay home for kids and the financial need to work (which you've noted in a backhanded sort of way) is all the rage in much of the media, both high and low.

Are men marrying their cows in Luxenbourg?

I don't mean that to be sarcastic or funny, I'm trying to understand your position, you stated that this would lead to people and cows getting married?

I don't think that homosexuals should get "married" and civil unions should suffice.

I don't have any reason for this other than that's just how I feel. No cows, cats, refrigerators or aborted babies were harmed during my thought processes.

I'm bi, but there is no way I would ever marry another woman.
direwolfghost wrote on Jun 17
No way I can marry another woman either :)

I think it doesn't matter, marriage or civil union, and as far as I'm concerned, marriage belongs in churches and state governments should only be giving out civil unions to both the same sex and opposite sex couples,

this is not mainstream, but a more secular view of government,

All I'm saying is, two adults of legal age go down to the city hall, government should verify age and residency and give them the Civil Union Certificate.

http://www.rossde.com/editorials/Dershowitz_marriage.html
My idea was my own but then I found that Dershowitz had this idea several years ago.
debosofi wrote on Jun 18
Government should also be checking other things like - whether either person has been married before, etc.

There's a lot more to attaining a marriage license than just age and residency.

I voted in Schwarzennegger before leaving California and moving to Missouri. I reckoned he would see it this way. He's very much a social liberal, its only his economics that make him a Republican. The far right was never particularly happy to see him enter politics.

I think your right about the coming lawsuits, when/if enough states make gay marriage legal the country at large will have to make a decision.

It is not as slippery a slope as some people would like to think... the idea is that marriage would be between two consenting adults, regardless of gender. Not a child with their parent, nor a farm owner with their livestock, nor an adult with their domestic pet.

I totally agree with this. That said, since the government is currently giving out marriage certificates, I'm very happy that California has finally chosen to do the right thing.

Unfortunately, it's about as easy to change the California Constitution as it is to make toast. I hope the ignorant majority doesn't mess this up. Like Civil Rights, I believe that, in the end, the Federal Government will probably have to step in.

You know what they say about assuming............. My oldest child works graveyard and calls me nearly everymoring. She happens to be Lesbian. We were talking about family friends(two women) getting married on Friday and she said she is very happy that they are getting married after being together 25 years. She said because of religious beliefs she doesn't support gay marriage , she is favor or full civil unions giving everyone the same rights......So there you go......

When "liberals" try to ban cigarettes "conservatives" get mad and say why are you trying to impose your "liberal" morality on us.

Now "conservatives" try to ban same sex marriage and "liberals" get mad and say wh are you trying to impose your "conservative" morality on us.

I don't see it that way anymore, this is what I see.

A group of ass holes want to ban cigarette smoking and impose their morality on the rest of us (I don't smoke) and thats not what freedom is about.
A second group of ass holes want to deny the right to marry someone of the same sex and impose their morality on the rest of us (I'm a heterosexual who is married to a woman) and thats not what freedom is about.

We draw a circle around these ass holes and inside the circle we say ass holes and on the outside we say the United States of America.

That's what I see too... I don't waste my time determining who's to blame... which side of the political fence, I mean... The main issue is that some random groups of people want to suppress or remove our personal freedoms.
